New comparative and superlative

Forming regular comparatives and superlatives. The form depends on the number of syllables in the original adjective. One syllable adjectives.


Add -er for the comparative and -est for the superlative. Comparative adjectives are used to compare one noun to another noun. In these instances, only two items are being compared.


For example, someone might say that "the blue bird is angrier than the robin. Superlative adjectives are used to compare three or more nouns.


We use the with superlative adjectives: It was the happiest day of my life. Everest is the highest mountain in the world. That’s the best film I have seen this year. Can all adjectives and adverbs have a comparative or superlative form?


What is a comparative adjective for comparative? If the comparison is between three or more things then the superlative form must be used. An adjective or adverb is made into the superlative form in one of two ways.


The way that is used depends on the number of syllables contained in the adjective or adverb: Most one-syllable adjectives and adverbs take the ending -est. If we want to talk about a quality which is smaller in amount relative to others, we use the forms less (the opposite of comparative more ), and the least (the opposite of superlative the most ). We can also use more new. When we want to look at the all the books and say which one out of all of them is the most new, we would say that.
